Lili approved initiatives are activities, changes or programs that Intertape has or is planning to implement that allow us to reduce our impact on the environment as an organization

Operational Shifts

·         Redesigned logistics model to eliminate unnecessary shipments between plants in order to reduce fuel consumption and environmental pollutants associated with truck miles driven
·         Strategically partner with transportation carriers that participate in EPA approved incentive programs that reward fuel efficiency improvements and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions
·         Increased use of rail for all shipments from East to West and all intermodal shipments which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% and provides three times greater fuel efficiency over trucking
·         Designed and implemented operational improvements within several regional distributions centers to maximize efficiency and minimize the number of shifts per day to reduce energy consumption
·         Actively converting customers and employees away from paper to electronic transactions including orders, invoices, payroll, reports.

Manufacturing Processes *

·         Partnering with the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council to develop and implement Green Policy
Capture and reuse solvent vapors produced in the manufacturing process
·         Recycling programs for adhesive, plastic, cardboard and other packaging material waste produced in the manufacturing or distribution process.  Efforts have led to a staggering 60% reduction in landfill usage over a five year period for one plant alone
·         Paper and plastic scrap that cannot be reused by Intertape is sold to scrap dealers for recycling
Upgraded natural gas burners used in the manufacturing process to be more energy efficient and lower NOx emissions
·         Storm water attenuation ponds capture storm water prior to discharge into sensitive wetlands areas to enhance water quality.  Collected storm water is tested prior to discharge
·         Produce plastic cores from manufacturing waste resin replacing the need for cardboard cores.  Now consume about 2 million pounds of manufacturing waste annually reducing the amount of plastic waste disposal
·         VOC reduction efforts led to a 15% reduction in VOC emissions within a two year period

Applies to some but not all manufacturing facilities.

Research & Development

·         Seek to discover and implement non solvent coating technology where product quality is not affected
·         Work closely with raw material suppliers to develop more biodegradable product solutions
·         Developed Energy Team committed to discovering and deploying energy conservation efforts across all plant sites

Facility Management / Employee Programs

·         Recycling programs for paper, plastic, aluminum, batteries, light bulbs and computer accessories
·         Designated smoking areas are located outdoors
·         Implemented energy use reduction programs for water, natural gas and electricity (Danville, VA plant recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as the 2008 Gold E2 winner)
·         Employee participation plan to reward Lili Approved activities and programs
