CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONALS GET NEW “DRAFT” PICK TO
PROTECT AGAINST AIR AND MOISTURE

Intertape Polymer Group Introduces Contractor Grade Sheathing Tape

BRADENTON, Fla. – June 30, 2005 – A national trend being used in the construction industry is the use of house wraps to increase energy efficiencies.  However, when gaps form in the seams between wraps, the efficiencies and benefits are lost.

To provide construction professionals with a superior tape product for house wrap seams, Intertape Polymer Group, the largest tape manufacturer in North America, introduces its Contractor Grade Sheathing Tape to help protect against air and moisture infiltration.

“Contactors are using more and more house wraps because consumers want an energy efficient home,” states Jim Derrick, national commercial sales manager, Intertape.  “Our new sheathing tape with its superior adhesion properties works much better than stapling because it forms a gap-free seam that contractors and home owners can count on

Designed to work on all house wraps, Intertape’s Sheathing Tape provides the tightest seal for applications requiring a wide range of temperatures.  Consisting of a biaxially-oriented polypropylene backing, coated with a pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive, the new tape:

  • Prevents air infiltration
  • Seals panel joints in foam insulation
  • Secures lap edges
  • Repairs rips and tears in roll and batt insulation
  • Eliminates drafts around window and door openings

In internal tests against two national competitors on a Tyvek Substrate, Intertape’s sheathing tape outperformed each various climates.  Note:  In the data below, mass fiber tear (MFT) and fiber tear (FT) refers to the amount of substrate fiber the test tape that was removed (the more fiber that the tape removes, the better the tape).
